15 Apr Sunset Serenade at Edelweiss
Edelweiss was the site of a lavish celebration of the 200th anniversary of the founding of Natchez Children’s Services on April 15, 2016. The event, made possible by the generous sponsors listed below and those who bought tickets, raised funds for the benefit of the many children and families served by NCS.
Guests toured Edelweiss, the beautiful town home of author Greg Iles and his wife Caroline. WLBT’s Walt Grayson, who had previewed the event (see here), spoke with guests and filmed the gathering.
The “serenade” was given by Jason Swanson, a talented guitarist and vocalist from Tulsa, Oklahoma, with the capacity for a wide range of musical styles. While the overcast skies denied the party the usually spectacular sunset over the Mississippi, spirits were not dampened.
Morgan Catering supplied astonishingly good food – so good that the food, in a quantity that should have provided leftovers, disappeared quickly. The salmon, shrimp, brisket, broccoli salad, spinach dip, fruit and other delicacies tempted early eaters to have three and four platefuls, depleting offerings for later guests!
The event at Edelweiss, as well as donations throughout the year, provide important support for such programs as the Children’s Advocacy Center, Therapeutic Preschool Day Treatment, and trauma-focused, cognitive behavioral therapy. These and other programs are made available free of charge to the children and families who need them. However, Natchez Children’s Services cannot offer programs without a staff of therapists, victim advocates, forensic interviewers and behavioral specialists. NCS must keep the lights on, maintain its facility and grounds, provide transportation to preschoolers and those in therapy, and afford an office staff.
Natchez Children’s Services could not help those it serves without the support of its friends and donors. Thank you!
